Senior Residential Facility in Bedford, Ohio

COMMUNITY Updates

March 5, 2024

Dear Friends and Family of Light of Hearts Villa,

The arrival of March fills our hearts with joy! With warmer weather on the docket this week, we are feeling energized and excited for the arrival of spring and of course the Lenten season we are in.

Miguel Chavez, the Sr. Vice President of Mission and Ministry with the Sisters of Charity Health System, recently shared profound sentiments during the first week of Lent that deeply resonated with many of us. He emphasized the significance of Lent as an opportune moment to reaffirm our commitment to the vital work of charity, a calling we are tasked to embrace and enact through the various ministries we engage in. It is a reminder that each day presents us with numerous chances to utilize our unique gifts and talents to positively impact the lives of those in need. In the words of the revered modern-day Brazilian saint, Irmã Dulce Lopes Pontes, “The important thing is to do charity, not to talk about charity.” This highlights the wonderful mission of serving those who are marginalized or in distress, which we are honored to do as we care for our senior residents day in and day out.

Additionally, we will be hosting an Eclipse Viewing Party here at the Villa next Monday, April 8 starting around 2 PM. Families and friends are welcomed to join their loved ones for the historic event but we do ask that you bring your own viewing glasses if you have them. We have enough ordered for our residents and staff, but may not have enough for guests.

During your visit, don’t forget to explore our Cozy Corner Resale Shop. Recently replenished with a wealth of treasures from a generous estate donation, including exquisite jewelry, yarn, household essentials, apparel, and footwear—there’s something for everyone. The shop welcomes visitors between 12-2 PM and 4-8 PM, and all proceeds go towards the Sister Helen T. Scasny, SC Benevolent Fund, supporting residents in need.

General Updates + Covid-19

We are thrilled to share that as we move away from the colder weather months, we are no longer enforcing the mandatory wearing of masks within our community. We are excited to see your faces again!

We encourage you to visit our Cozy Corner Resale Shop if you haven’t visited in a while! There are plenty of new donations we have received from a recent estate clean out with tons of beautiful jewelry, yarn, household items, clothing, shoes and more. You can visit anytime between 12-2 PM or 4-8 PM. All proceeds are designated to the Sister Helen T. Scasny, SC Benevolent Fund which supports our residents who have outlived their financial resources.

Lastly, if you haven’t already, delve into our 2023 Impact Report, available digitally or in print at our front lobby during your next visit. Your continued support fuels our mission and enriches the lives of our residents.

Here’s to a vibrant April and the adventures that await us!

Closing Thoughts

Finally, so many of you consistently send sweet notes of thanks and encouragement and it really does mean a lot. We’d love it if you filled out our Testimonials Form and shared those thoughts here – the kind words you share will help us reach more people and recruit new residents into our family (and also make us smile).

We are praying and entering this season of Lent with our focus on God and the peace He provides. May healing, peace and safety cover us all. Thank you for continuing to be a supportive community.

With profound appreciation,
