Sister Regina Kusnir Chapel of Light: A Legacy of Faith and Compassion
Honoring Sister Regina Kusnir's Ongoing Legacy at Light of Hearts Villa
Sister Regina Kusnir, SC, has lived a life of extraordinary charity and has been an integral part of Light of Hearts Villa. She helped coordinate the transition of Lumen Cordium High School into an assisted living facility in 1989. Since 2005, she has served as the director of pastoral and special ministries, where she helps address the spiritual life of residents.
In recognition of her long dedication to Light of Hearts Villa and her enduring spiritual leadership, we proudly named the chapel the Sister Regina Kusnir Chapel of Light. The special announcement was made at this year’s Light the Way Gala, touching the hearts of all in attendance.
“This heartfelt tribute honors Sr. Regina, whose deep faith and compassionate spirit are guiding lights for our community,” said Executive Director Breanne Cavileer. “Her unwavering commitment to service and love for the community continues to impact countless lives, providing comfort, guidance and hope to those in need.”
Whether leading prayer services or bible study, offering spiritual counseling, or simply being a kind presence to residents and staff alike, Sister Regina exemplifies the Vincentian values upon which Light of Hearts Villa was founded.
The surprise dedication of the chapel was unveiled during the Gala, leaving Sister Regina—and the many who have been touched by her presence—deeply moved. The newly named Chapel of Light serves as a lasting testament to her contributions, reminding us daily of the strength and solace that faith provides. The chapel’s name reflects not only Sister Regina’s personal journey but also the hope and light she inspires in all who are blessed by her ministry.
The chapel is a sacred space for reflection, prayer and connection. Now, with its new name, it holds even greater significance, honoring a woman who has devoted her life to uplifting others. The chapel, which residents have called “the heart of the villa,” will continue to be a beacon of hope, where residents, families, staff and visitors can seek comfort and peace, just as Sr. Regina has so often provided.
In addition to the new name, the Chapel of Light now shines even more brightly with fresh paint and will soon have new carpeting thanks to the generosity of Janice Marie, enhancing this serene and welcoming space for all. Her thoughtful contribution ensures that this sacred space continues to inspire peace and hope for years to come.
As we look to the future, the Sister Regina Kusnir Chapel of Light will remain a place where love, compassion and faith flourish—a fitting tribute to a remarkable woman whose legacy will live on in the heart of our community for generations to come. “We are forever grateful to Sr. Regina for her decades of service, and we are thrilled to honor her in this meaningful way. Please join us in celebrating Sister Regina Kusnir and her enduring impact on Light of Hearts Villa,” said Breanne.
Sister Regina Kusnir, overwhelmed with emotion, listens in shock as the chapel is named in her honor. She received a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience at the 2024 Light the Way Gala in recognition of her remarkable legacy.
