Lumen Cordium Alumnae Mass of Remembrance
Though the halls may serve a new purpose today, the spirit of Lumen Cordium continues to live on through the friendships, faith, and memories shared by generations of alumnae.
What a wonderful September it has been at the Villa! We had so much to celebrate this month, especially during National Assisted Living Week. This year’s theme, Shining Through the Years, gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate our residents, staff, families, volunteers and friends who make Light of Hearts such a special place.
The week was packed with fun… live music, an ice cream truck, crafts, delicious food and plenty of time together. One of our favorite highlights was our Glamour & Pamper Day, when residents were treated to hair styling, makeup, hand massages, beautiful accessories and professional photos. We wrapped up the week with our annual resident and staff picnic, beautiful weather and music from The Monotones!
So many people helped make the week possible. We are especially grateful to our generous sponsors and community partners, including Brewer-Garrett, Absolute Pharmacy, Bill Cornhoff and Catholic Community Connection, as well as the volunteers, families and friends who helped us celebrate. Thank you for continuing to show our residents so much love!
As we head into cold and flu season, we kindly ask our families and friends to help us protect the health and well-being of our residents. If you are feeling unwell, experiencing cold or flu symptoms, or think you may be coming down with something, please postpone your visit until you’re feeling better.
Our residents’ health and safety are always a priority, and we’re grateful for everyone’s help in keeping our Light of Hearts Villa community as healthy as possible this season. Thank you for looking out for one another!
Matching Season is Here!
As we head into fall, we’re shifting gears toward our biggest fundraising effort of the year: #WeGiveCatholic!
This year, we have an incredible $250,000 in matching gifts from two generous families. That means every gift we raise, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000 will be matched… giving us the opportunity to raise $500,000 for Light of Hearts Villa!
And we’re already on our way. As of September 29, more than $70,000 has been raised toward the $250,000 needed to unlock the full match!
We have until midnight on Giving Tuesday, December 1, to get there, and we need our entire Villa community behind us. Please help us spread the word to family, friends, coworkers and anyone who believes in our mission. You can give anytime through the Light of Hearts Villa website or mail a check directly to the Villa. Beginning November 21, you can also donate through our official #WeGiveCatholic page when Early Giving opens.
We are SO excited to see what our community can accomplish together!
Trick-or-Treat at the Villa — October 27
Mark your calendars! Our annual Trick-or-Treat at the Villa is coming up on Tuesday, October 27, from 4:00–5:30 p.m.
If you joined us last year, you know how much fun this event is! Our Dietary Team transforms the dining room with delicious spooky treats, children go door-to-door trick-or-treating throughout the Villa, and our residents absolutely love seeing all of the costumes and little ones. We’ll also have more fun in the Activity Center, including face painting, balloon twisting and other Halloween activities. It’s one of our favorite opportunities to open our doors and welcome the greater community into the Villa!
Resident families — we need your help filling those candy bowls! We’re asking families to please consider bringing in a bag (or two!) of individually wrapped candy for your loved one to pass out to trick-or-treaters. Community candy donations are also very welcome and can be dropped off at the Villa ahead of the event.
Last year was an absolute blast, and we’re hoping for another great turnout this year. Invite your family and friends, bring the kiddos in costume and help us spread the word!
A Special Invitation to Our Lumen Cordium Alumnae
To all of our Lumen Cordium gals, we’d love to welcome you back home! Light of Hearts Villa will host a special Mass of Remembrance on Saturday, November 7, and we hope you’ll join us.
There is something so meaningful about welcoming Lumen Cordium alumnae back into the halls of their former school, sharing memories and seeing how this special place continues to serve others today. We would love to see you! Learn more and RSVP here >
Welcoming New Neighbors
We’ve also had the joy of welcoming many new residents to the Villa recently! We currently have openings available in Assisted Living, while our Lumen Lane Memory Care neighborhood currently has a small waiting list.
If you or someone you love is beginning to explore senior living, we would be happy to answer questions, show you around and help you learn more about life at Light of Hearts Villa. Please reach out to our team here to start the conversation.
As always, thank you for being part of the Light of Hearts Villa family. Whether you support us through a gift, volunteer your time, attend an event, share our story or simply keep our residents and staff in your prayers, you are an important part of our mission.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of this year brings!

As the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine celebrate 175 years of serving others, we’re honored to share stories from those whose lives have been touched by their mission. For Jennifer Grogan, assistant dietary director at Light of Hearts Villa, working alongside the Sisters has been a powerful reminder of what it means to lead with compassion, serve with humility, and care for others with unwavering grace.

We are thrilled to share exciting news with our community — Light of Hearts Villa has officially received a deficiency-free rating on our 2025 Annual State Survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Health!
